Frequently Asked Questions

Can I start physical therapy without having seen a doctor?
Yes, in most cases. We have direct access to patients, which means you can walk in and get treated by a physical therapist in New York State without a prescription.

What should I bring to my first appointment?
Comfortable clothes so that the physical therapist can treat that body part without restrictions. Also bring a prescription if you have one, insurance card and any diagnostic tests, i.e. MRI, X-Ray etc…

What should I expect at my first session?
The first session will consist of an evaluation from the physical therapist and a starter treatment all depending on the diagnosis and condition. You will be then told what to start doing at home to accelerate your healing. Please arrive early to get the optimum treatment.

How long will the session take?
Usually treatments last one hour!

What is physical Therapy?
A physical therapist is a licensed medical professional who undergoes three years of physical therapy school after college. They usually have either a Masters or Doctorate degree depending upon how long ago they graduated. Newer therapists have doctorates. The goals of physical therapy are to restore or achieve optimum movement, function and to relieve pain. Therapists use their hands, equipment and teaching techniques to achieve those goals.
